  • COVID 19 HEALTH & SAFETY REGULATIONS

    The following Covid-19 Regulations to be in place until further notice:
    These measures will remain in effect until such time as there are new or additional guidelines.
    The following precautions will be taken:
    1.  Hand sterilising stations will be available on entry and at each workstation, but as always we strongly recommend hand washing with water.
    2.  The venue will be sterilised between events and food safe anti bacterial/viral will be used to keep the kitchen safe during classes.
    3.  Public class sizes will be reduced to a maximum of 16 guests, minimum of 9/10 guests.
    4.  All guests will be required to register their details, temperatures and who they cooked with at the beginning of each event
    5.  There will be 6 possible work stations, only guests who arrive together will be permitted to cook together
    6.  To accommodate the groups, tickets will be sold in two's, but please note we can accomodate 2 possible groups of 3 or 4 in each public event, but this will need to be discussed with us.
    7.  Throughout the event all guests will be required to wear masks
    8.  We will still offer table seating after the class with as much spacing as possible, however should guests prefer not to eat in, we will allow take aways.
     9.  Events will now commence 17h30 for 18h00 to allow time for recording of information and to allow for an earlier end time
    To accommodate the change in bookings, events will be listed on our website but bookings will need to be done directly with us, on info@thecookery.co.za
    We know and understand that the next few months will be challenging but we assure our clients that we will always do our utmost to ensure your enjoyment and safety.

Recipes will include Thai Noodle Salad; Sate (The Indonesian take on Satay); Fishcakes with tarragon mayo; Roasted Roma Tomato Tart in a Polenta Crust; Marinated beef Carpaccio; Chicken Escabeche; Pear & Almond Tart; Espresso Zabaglione.

    We plan on increasing the number of meatfree events we offer in 2021 and we will be kicking off with a great new event, Going Green [Thursday 28 January 2021; 17h30; R500].  The idea behind this class is to give those looking to make a move to a green lifestyle great recipes to help them make the switchover. Recipes will include:  Italian Chopped Salad; Meatfree but Meaty Veggie Burgers; Lentil & Roasted Aubergine Salad; Lemon Cous Cous Salad; Heady Spiced Aubergine Curry; Flakey Vegan Flatbreads; Grilled Veggie Skewers with a vegan garlic mayo.  [Please note this event will include some dairy and eggs.]

  • La Lingua dell’Amore

    February is of course the month of love so we are kicking off with the aptly entitled La Lingua dell’Amore [Wednesday 3 February 2020; 17h30; R500].  Anyone who knows The Cookery know that we have mad love for all things Italian, this class will offer classic Italian recipes but reimagined with a contemporary twist.  The recipes we have chosen are all selected from famous restaurants around Italy. Recipes will include Calamari fritti con purea di melanzane [Crisp Calamari with a Lemon Aubergine mash]; Fettucine Al pomodori con menta [Fresh fettucine with a roasted tomatoes & mint]; Polpette in umido; Pappardelle al pesto Frascatano [Frascati Pesto made with fresh oregano & ricotta]; Crostata di Ricotta [famed in the Jewish quarter of Rome a pastry wrapped Ricotta Cheesecake]; Fragole e Ricotta [Black Pepper Balsamic Strawberries with fresh ricotta].

  • Lovers in the Night

    We are hosting a Valentine's dinner event Lovers in The Night [Sunday 14 February; 17h30; R550], this event, will have our usual selection of delicious food but the focus will be on keeping it simple so that there is lots of time to enjoy the company. The menu will include Rare Roasted Beef Fillet; Chicken Involtini; Impepata di Cozze; Crepes Suzette (because the 70’s that’s why).  We will be partnered with Haute Cabriere for the evening, they will be keeping us company with a wonderful selection of bubbles (on arrival) and wines throughout the evening.

    Then it will be time for our second Italian event La Passione [Tuesday 16 February 2021; 17h30; R500] this event will focus on the dishes which the Italians are most passionate about.  As with all Italian cooking we will be focusing on how to highlight the best in ingredients through simple recipes.  The class will include hands on skills in fresh pasta rolling; gnocchi [we will be doing a deep crimson beetroot gnocchi and a classic one]. The selection of recipes will be made up of cuisine from five different provinces, these will be Lazio [Crostini con Alici e mozzarella; Spaghetti Alla Gricia;  Fritto Antico]; Sicilia; Tuscany; Campagna and Emilia Romagna [Tortellini in Brodo; Torta Barozzi]

    We hosted our first ever Caribbean class in 2020, and it was hugely popular.  The food, whilst new to a lot of people, was bold and loved.  So, we are hosting our second Caribbean class Sizzle [Thursday 18 February 2021; 17h30; R500] this event will take the most popular recipes from our first event, and grow on them with some new exciting recipes. Recipes will include Buss Up Shut; Dry Cod Fritters; Grilled Jerk Chicken; Rum Soaked Pineapple Cake and loads more island deliciousness.

  • Milos Meatfree Mondays: Bean there!

[Monday 22 February 2021; 17h30; R500] will be a global look at the humble legume (kidney beans, haricot beans; chick peas; lentils)  and some fabulous recipes to make the most of them.     Then it will be time for our ode to the land of Aphrodite, From Santorini with love [Wednesday 24 February 2021; 17h30; R500] this class will be built on the basis of our sell out class Shirley Valentine which we ran late in 2020.  It will be a selection of wonderful recipes from around the Aegean sea, think sunshine, island breezes and the azure blue of the ocean. Recipes will include Grilled calamari; Honey scented crunchy tiropita; Lamb souvlaki; Chicken souvlaki, Bougatsa (a phyllo custard pie) and loads more.

Vouchers cost R500 per person or the limited R400 (access to the simpler #mondayswithmilo class only) and are valid for a full year and will cover the recipient for all relevant public classes (excludes Secret Sunday Brunch).  We like to customise every voucher so we need you to send us an email info@thecookery.co.za, saying who the voucher is for, whether it is for a single or a double ticket, and of course who the voucher is from.  We will then get you your customised voucher and the necessary payment details.
